I quit my full-time job after I had my first baby. The idea of being away from her from 6:30am-6pm killed me and I just couldn’t do it.
I found a way to work two part-time jobs which allowed me to spend more time with her. I was able to set my own hours and it was better than my full-time job.
Pay wasn’t as great, but we only had one child at the time so we managed fine.
Then….I had my second daughter and things changed!
We decided it was best if I only worked my one part-time job or stayed home altogether. I really wanted to stay home but I knew financially things would be difficult for us.
My gut told me that I could find a legitimate work from home job, yet I had no idea how?!!
I loved writing and researched as much as I could about what I could do using my writing ability to make money.

After that, things just snowballed from there. Once I was doing freelance writing, I discovered so many more ways to make money and work from home!
I now have 3 daughters and am able to make a great income working from the comfort of my own home!

We all know once we pick up that phone, our children need us for something and it’s so hard to talk!

Social Media Consultant/Social Media Evaluator
Do you enjoy social media?
Do you have all the apps on your phone and know how to work every social media platform that’s hot at the moment?
Then being a Social Media Consultant is the job for you! You can do this as a freelance position and schedule your own hours, or work for a company.
If you don’t have any experience but want to get your foot in the door, the best way is by asking a friend or family member who has a business, to run their social media platforms for them or be an admin for just one of their platforms. This will help you gain some experience and allow you to use their names as a reference on your resume to get you hired for more work.
A Social Media Evaluator is a little different from a consultant but it’s an entry level position and can lead you to more Social Media jobs in the future.
Big companies are too busy to handle their own social media platforms so they outsource to people like you!

They provide feedback on text and web pages. Ad Raters work remotely and can normally schedule their own hours as well.
This is a great part-time job for those that love computers and only have a few hours to spare a day. Being an Ads Rater can also give you experience for more jobs similar to this.

A moderator is a person who moderates an internet forum or social media platform for a business and oversees all communication activities.
Moderators must follow strict guidelines to make sure platforms and other internet communications are legal.
How can one become a moderator?

A transcriptionist is a person who converts speech into written or electronic text document. The speech can either be recorded or live depending on the company you work for.

Starting off as a general transcriptionist is a good way to learn the basics and then later on train to be a medical transcriptionist to advance your career.
A little warning here, this job is something that is only possible to do while your children are napping!
I looked into this many years ago and thought it sounded great but realized I needed to do a lot of listening and my house is never quiet so it just didn’t work out for me.
However, you are able to set your own schedule so this could be great for some moms, just wasn’t an option for me.
Transcriptionists is a great career and can make really good money once they know what they are doing!

Medical & Billing Coder
We’ve all heard of this one, so it isn’t new but I thought I’d add it to this list anyway. This really is a great job to do from home and still be with your kids!
A medical & billing coder is someone who goes over medical and records and documents and assigns codes based on a universal coding system which is used to reimburse claims for insurance purposes.
If you already have some type of health/medical background, then this is the job for you!
To be a medical/billing coder, you need to have at least an associates degree or some credentials in coding.
Whatever school you choose to get your medical coding certificate, make sure it is accredited by either American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
These work from home jobs are in high demand and there are many companies that offer these positions!

Pinterest Virtual Assistant –
Yes, this is an actual job so if you love Pinterest, then I’d advice you to look into to this!
This is a fairly new career but since Pinterest has become so huge (and let’s face it, who doesn’t love Pinterest) this job will become more demanding! I may be hiring one myself in the next year or two!
Pinterest Virtual Assistant falls into the social media consulting/virtual assistant category but I added this separate because it’s slightly different and like I mentioned above, it will be in high demand soon!
Pinterest can be a lot to learn but so worth your time as a business owner to utilize this platform! Many business owners are too busy to take the time to promote their business on Pinterest and learn how to use it.
There are PVA courses you can take to add to your resume to help you. A formal course on Pinterest is a must and this course here by HorkeyHandbook can prepare you for all you need to know!

I will warn you that a virtual assistant is probably the one job on here that you may need your phone occasionally, depending on your clients.
A virtual assistant is a highly skilled professional who provides administrative, technical, and/or creative business support services remotely.
Okay, but really, what do they actually do?
They can do pretty much everything! Think of them as someone who can do bookkeeping, event planning, web/graphic design, social media consulting, marketing support of any kind, scheduling, pretty much your right-hand, go-to person that knows your company in and out and what you need to keep it running smooth!
Virtual assistants are in high demand today because companies need someone to handle many aspects of their business, instead of just one.
This is where the virtual assistants shine.

Oh, freelance writing is how I got my career started and I am so happy I did!

Freelance writing is an awesome way to make extra money and there are so many companies looking for writers! Big companies don’t have the time to write posts for their blogs or edit their websites, that’s when they outsource to people like you!
If you love to write and are a mom, it’s such a great job because there are so many freelance positions available and you can write in the morning before the kids wake up, during nap time, and then again when they go to bed (depending on how much the kids wore you out that day).
You can easily make $500-$1000 a month with writing gigs once you get good at it!

You must use a self-hosted site in order to make money from blogging. If you choose to blog on Blogger or WordPress.com then you are not able to monetize your blog. This completely confused me years ago.
Blogging is a very inexpensive way to start your own business. The best part is choosing your own theme! You can go with a free theme and customize it any way you like, or pick a Premium theme. At first, I went with the free theme but after looking around, I knew I wanted something different because I really wanted my blog to become my business so I needed more options.
