When I started setting up my home office, I realized it required thoughtful decisions about space, furniture, and lighting. I wanted to create a functional area that fit my work style while also making the best use of the space and natural light I had available.

Maximizing Natural Light

One of the simplest but most effective upgrades I made was maximizing natural light. It reduced my eye strain, boosted my mood, and kept me more productive throughout the day.

Placing a desk near a window but angled it to avoid screen glare, using adjustable blinds when they are needed.

Proper lighting is important and if you don’t have an office with a lot of natural light, then you’ll need to get some!

When the light wasn’t enough, I supplemented with daylight bulbs that mimicked sunlight. I also added a task lamp to brighten my work surface.

I stick with smaller desks and chairs to make the most of my space. A slim desk (under 40 inches wide) gives me enough room to work without taking over the whole area.

I also love folding or drop-leaf desks since I can expand them when I need extra space and tuck them away when I don’t.
